Biography

Finn Shields is a British composer based in Helsinki, Finland. He has written for orchestra, chamber
groups, choir, solo piano and many other ensembles, and his music has been performed
internationally.

 

Finn principally writes concert music, but has also written scores for short films
such as Kodutee (Estonia, 2017-2018) and has worked on collaborative educational projects such as
the ‘Orchestrate’ project coordinated by St. Anne’s College, University of Oxford.

 

Now settled in Finland, Finn studies at the Sibelius Academy under Matthew Whittall. An active member of the Korvat Auki contemporary music society, Finn served as chairman from 2020 to 2021.

Upcoming projects in 2022-23 include a recording with Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, and performances of 3 choral works around Finland. Finn is also a finalist at the composition competition of the Finnish union of women's choirs.
