Biography

Finn Shields is a British composer based in Helsinki, Finland. He has written for orchestra, chamber
groups, choir, solo piano and many other ensembles, and his music has been performed
internationally.

 

Finn principally writes concert music, but has also written scores for short films
such as Kodutee (Estonia, 2017-2018) and has worked on collaborative educational projects such as
the ‘Orchestrate’ project coordinated by St. Anne’s College, University of Oxford.

 

Now settled in Finland, Finn studies at the Sibelius Academy under Matthew Whittall. An active member of the Korvat Auki contemporary music society, Finn is currently serving as chairman.

Upcoming projects include Finn’s
representation of Finland at UNM (Ung Nordisk Musik) 2020 in Tampere, the premiere of a new
work by Helsingin Poliisisoitakunta in September 2020, and a new collaborative work in February
2021 as part of the Musica Nova festival.
